VCYC Regular Weekend Sailing

Following the VCYC committee meeting last week it has been decided to modify the VCYC weekend club sailing and activity program to better cater for all members and friends.

The revised weekend sailing program is as follows:-

  • Sunday 08 May 2016
    13h00 till 17h00 - Social / casual sailing

  • Sunday 15 May 2016
08h00 till 17h00 - VCYC Opening of the Season / Cruising Sailing Day
    (per program published above)

  • Every alternate Sunday from 22 May 2016
    11h00 till 13h00 - Supervised children's / youth sailing
14h00 till 16h00 - VCYC Club and Social Dinghy Races

  • Every other Sunday
    13h00 till 17h00 - Social / casual sailing

Committee members will be present to provide assistance and operate the rescue / safety boat during the above times every Sunday.

Limited tuition / coaching will also be available free of charge during each of the children's / youth sailing mornings.

It is important to please note that sailors using the VCYC owned sailboats for any of the Sunday programs will need to rent use of the sailboat they use. Although sailboats and rental may be shared, one responsible adult will be required to sign and accept full responsibility for that sailboat irrespective of whether they, their child(ren) or friends use the sailboat before it is removed from the boat shed.

Sailboat rental prices start from Vt1,000 for a two hour rental period and members pay half the public boat rental rate.

Please Note: If you need to rent one of the VCYC club boats for the Sunday sailing it is important that you please arrive at least half an hour prior to the program start time to allow everyone adequate time to rig and be ready for the scheduled start.

New Caledonia Inter Provincial Sailing Games

The VCYC have accepted an invitation to send a team of four youth sailors to the New Caledonia Inter Provincial Sailing Games on Lifou Island from 08 till 12 August.

The competition will be raced on Hobie Wave class sailboats and is open to both expatriate and Ni Vanuatu sailors 17 years of age and younger. A prerequisite of the invitation is that at least one team member must be female.

With the exception of the flight to and from Port Vila the New Caledonia Sailing Federation are sponsoring all Team Vanuatu costs to participate including accommodation, meals, boat charter, entry fee and the flight from Noumea to Lifou island. Their generosity that will certainly make participating a lot more affordable for all sailors is appreciated.

In addition to the New Caledonia championship, and depending on our team's performance there, a possibility that two of these sailors will be entered to represent Vanuatu and race the multi-hull class at the 2016 Youth World Championships also exists.

To create a competitive team selection criteria the VCYC are inviting all youth sailors interested in this awesome opportunity and some intensive coaching on multi hull sailboats to contact Marc Morel on 7748995 for more information.

We wish all our moms a super Mothers Day this Sunday and look forward to you and your friends joining us on or off the water at the VCYC this weekend.
