Weekly News Update

After no wind last weekend led to the start of the 2016 dinghy race series being postponed to this Sunday we can look forward to a good breeze and some great sailing this weekend.

Per the program below it is going to be a very busy weekend and we please need your support to make it the success it deserves to be, especially during the open day on Saturday.

In this week's newsletter:-

VCYC Open Day / Sailing Taster / Membership Drive

To help kick start the 2016 dinghy sailing season an open day for anyone interested in trying their hand at sailing will be held at the VCYC club (Port Vila Boatyard) from 11am this Saturday.

In addition to offering you, your family and friends an opportunity to sail on one of the VCYC's brand new RS Tera, RS Quba or Laser sailboats the open day will double as a membership recruitment drive.

Those wanting to take their sailing experience to the next level and learn to sail properly will be able to register for the new series of sailing tuition courses to be offered by the VCYC over the weekends following the open day.

The VCYC bar will be open from 10am and bar food will be available throughout the day.

Judging by the interest already shown Saturday will be very supported and I need to ask all members to please show your support for the club, come along for a great day out, to lend a hand, help drink the beer and welcome new members to the VCYC.

VCYC 2016 Club Race Series

The first two races of the VCYC 2016 dingy race series will be this Sunday 14 February 2016.

The weather forecast predicts a good breeze that will ensure an exciting afternoon on the water.

The VCYC bar will be open from noon, skippers briefing will be at 1.30pm and the start of the first race at 2.00pm.

If you do not yet own a sailing dinghy, or would just like to try sailing a different boat, the VCYC now has brand new sailboats available for hire for a very nominal fee (see below).

As always the emphasis at VCYC club races is competitive fun and everybody is welcome to join in, both on and off the water.

VCYC Sailboats for Hire

The VCYC has acquired a fleet of brand new RS Tera, RS Quba and Laser sailboats.

Besides being used to introduce and coach new sailors the sport of sailing these boats are available for hire on an hourly and half day basis throughout the week to both club members and the general public. Club members will pay a greatly reduced fee compared to the general public.

Anyone wanting to book use of one the VCYC sailboats for casual sailing, or the club racing on Sundays, should please give Justin a call on 7719174.

I look forward to you joining us at the VCYC open day this Saturday and again on Sunday for the start of 2016 race series.

Yours in sailing
