ISAF Youth Worlds Sailing Championship

VCYC Sailors to Race 2015 ISAF Youth Worlds

Two lucky and talented VCYC youth sailors, Sydney Pettitt and Manu Lore, have been selected to race and represent Vanuatu at the 2015 ISAF Youth World Sailing Championship.

This world championship event, and Youth Olympic Games qualifier, will be raced at Langkawi, Malaysia from 27 December 2015 till 03 January 2016.

Each participating nation is allowed only one male and one female entry per class and to date over 67 nations have entered sailors to race the 2015 ISAF Youth World Sailing Championship, so the competition for our young sailors will be both tough and exciting.

Both sailors will race on the Laser Radial and are putting in hours of practice every day after school and each weekend to prepare themselves for the world championship.

Manu Lore, who only learned to sail in December last year, has the honour of being the first Ni Vanuatu sailor in the history of our nation to represent Vanuatu at a world championship sailing event. Because of this the pressure is on him to excel, and hopefully return home as Vanuatu's first ever world champion sailor.

Even though this will be her first major international regatta Sydney has previously represented both South Africa and Great Britain at four RS Tera World Sailing Championship events so has a slight advantage, especially with regards to her mental preparation.

As with any event of this magnitude participating in it costs money, especially getting to the event and back home again. To help them raise the funds needed to travel to Malaysia both sailors are selling the prime advertising space on their sails for just VT35,000 / AU$350 plus cost of artwork per side.

This space for corporate branding / adverting is highly visible (click here to view an example) and will remain on the sail for the lifetime of that sail making it real value for money advertising.

Alternatively, individual supporters who do not have corporate logos who would like sponsor our young sailors are able to purchase the naming rights to our sailors boats for just VT10,000 / AU$120 including artwork. This is a great and quirky way for someone to remember a loved one or something special and to help one of our young sailors at the same time. The boat will keep and display your chosen name for it's lifetime of approximately 15 years!

If you, or anyone else you know, would be interested in sponsoring our sailors by purchasing this prime advertising or naming rights please phone Paul on 7767360 for more info.

Barts Bash in Vanuatu

Bart's Bash 2015 Regatta in Vanuatu

Barts Bash 2015 will be sailed / raced at a total of 340 venues in 47 countries, including Vanuatu.

Per the Guinness Book of World Records 'Barts Bash' is officially the largest sailing race on one day in the world and the Vanuatu event will be sailed in Port Vila on Sunday 20th September.

Bart’s Bash was created both to remember Olympic Gold medallist and America Cup sailor Andrew “Bart” Simpson who died sailing at the age of 36. Besides been the biggest organised sailing event in the world it is the primary event used to raise funds for the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation charity.

The VCYC Bart's Bash will include and be for both our cruising yachts and dinghy sailors.

All our sailors / members are asked to please click here to enter online (it is free!) and show their support for both sailing in Vanuatu and the Andrew Simpson Foundation.

In addition to promising a fantastic day of sailing and entertainment for everybody we also have a neat trick up our sleeve that will ensure Vanuatu too will prominently feature in 2015 Guinness World Record for this event. More about that at a later date.

You can click here to read more about 'Barts Bash' and the Andrew simpson Sailing Foundation.

VCYC Dinghy Sailing Races

VCYC Dinghy Sailing Races 2.30pm this Sunday

Firstly a huge thank you to Tony, Merav and the other sailors who arrived to race last Sunday afternoon and still joined us on the water for a great afternoon of casual sailing after the scheduled races had to be postponed.

The races scheduled for last weekend and postponed will now be sailed this Sunday afternoon.

We already have 9 sailors entered for this weekend's racing so it will certainly be a great day for anyone still to needing put their dinghy back on the water to join us.

Please note the new starting time for the first race is now 2.30pm to allow adequate time between the Sunday morning junior sailing school and the afternoon races for everyone to have lunch, rig boats and be back on the water in time for the starting gun.

As always entry is free, the emphasis is on competitive fun and the VCYC bar (cheapest beer in town) will be open for our members and friends from 1.30pm

If you need to borrow / hire one of the RS sailboats for the races please phone Paul on 7767360 asap to check if any are still available.

RS Sailing Vanuatu

New Laser and Ex-Demo RS Sailboats for Sale

RS Sailing, the South Pacific distributor and importer for both Laser and RS sailboats, still have some of the ex demo RS sailboats and brand new Laser sailboats available at the very discounted prices recently offered to VCYC members.

If you are interested in grabbing a brand new Laser for AU$1,450 less than the identical boat will cost you in Australia or one of ex demo RS sailboats (RS Tera, RS Quba and RS CAT16) that are on offer at bargain prices you need to act now as these boats will be advertised to the general public early next week.

In addition to offering the the lowest RS and Laser sailboat prices anywhere in the world (a first for Vanuatu!) every sailboat is sold with a buy-back-guarantee and that makes them a very attractive offer if you are only in Vanuatu for couple of years as well as for families not yet certain if sailing is the sport for them.

RS Sailing also offer easy monthly payment plans on all their sailboats so don't be shy to ask if that will be better for your budget and bank account.

More info on the Laser sailboat offer is here and on ex-demo RS sailboats here.

I look forward to you joining us, on or off the water, at the new VCYC club premises this weekend.

Wishing your all fair winds and good sailing.
