With several sailors away for the school holidays, including Sydney and myself, the race committee has been deemed it prudent to postpone the club races scheduled for this Sunday till next weekend.

The revised VCYC club racing program is hence as per below:-

  • 04 October - VCYC Dinghy Series 2 Race 1 & 2
  • 11 October - VCYC Dinghy Series 2 Race 3 & 4
  • 18 October - VCYC Dinghy Series 2 Race 5 & 6
  • 18 October - VCYC Series 2 Prize Giving and Family BBQ
  • 25 October - Lay Day Weekend (no organised races but you can still sail for fun)

As always race entry is free, the emphasis is on competitive fun and everybody is welcome!

Bart's Bash International Regatta

Barts Bash 2015

Bart's Bash International Regatta 2015 was sailed by 11,913 sailors at a total of 469 venues in 62 countries, including Vanuatu on Sunday 20 September.

The early morning start for the Vanuatu Bart's Bash, that was to ensure Vanuatu achieved the accolade of being the official start to the global event, resulted in our sailors from Lelepa not arriving in time for the start.

Despite this adequate sailors to qualify as a fleet managed the early start and enjoyed a good race in light winds.

Thank you to everyone who got out of bed early and made the effort to be on the water and race Bart's Bash Vanuatu.

Manu Lore Appeal

A gentle reminder to all members and friends of the Manu Lore appeal and a huge thank you to Vanuatu Yacht Services, who have been the sole donor to date, for their very generous contribution.

As most of you are already aware two Vanuatu youth sailors, Sydney Pettitt and Manu Lore, have been selected to represent Vanuatu and race the 2015 ISAF (international sailing federation) Youth World Sailing Championship in Langkawi, Malaysia.

Both these sailors have just received an invitation from the New Caledonia Sailing Federation to race for Vanuatu in the New Caledonia National Sailing Championship to be sailed in Noumea 15 to 18 October.

Sailor preparation for a world class event like the ISAF Youth Worlds is vital, and championship event exposure, like the New Caledonia Nationals that our our sailors are not able to enjoy in Vanuatu, prior to the ISAF Youth Worlds will be a tremendous help to them and play a huge role in determining their success at the world championship.

Right now Sydney is in the fortunate position of been able to accept the invitation to race the New Caledonia National Sailing Championship but Manu Lore is not.

Although the New Caledonia Sailing Federation has offered to sponsor a charter boat and provide accommodation for Manu he will still need to raise circa VT 45,000 / AU$550 to cover the cost of his air ticket and the entry fee, hence this passionate appeal from me for your assistance.

Any donation that will enable Manu to participate in the New Caledonia National Sailing Championship will be most appreciated and may be made directly to my ANZ bank account number 1675 100 or in person to either myself or Justin at The Boatyard.

If you are not in a position to contribute financially any product and/or service vouchers that could be raffled to raise funds will also be most appreciated.

If you pay into the ANZ account, and so that we may acknowledge your contribution, please specify "Manu - Your Name" as the payer reference.

Any surplus realised from this appeal will be contributed to Manu's world championship campaign.

Yacht / Dinghy Spares & Accessories

I am in New Zealand till 01 October to finalise Sydney's 2016/7 schooling and for Sydney to enjoy some coaching with the Yachting New Zealand national youth squad.

If anyone is needing some spares for their sailing dinghy / CAT's from The Watershed email me on or and so long as it is not too heavy, and will fit inside my suitcase, I'll be happy to buy and bring back to Port Vila for you.

Wishing your fair winds and good sailing.
